The American writer David Foster Wallace was found hanged by his wife in his home in Claremont, California, at 21.30 on September 12, 2008.
This is what he wrote in his masterpiece, Infinite Jest .
"The person who has a so-called psychotic depression and tries to kill himself, he does not open the quotation marks" to mistrust "or some other abstract belief that the give and take in life are not even. And surely it is because death suddenly begins to look attractive. The person in whom the invisible agony reaches a level of unbearable What will kill you just like a person trapped throw from a burning building. Make no mistake about people who jump from the windows in flames. Their terror of falling from a great height is the same as you or I would feel if we were standing at the window to look at the landscape, that is the fear of falling is a constant. Here the variable is the other terror, the flames of the fire when the flames are close by, dying from a fall becomes the less terrible of two terrors. It is the desire to jump, it is the terror of flames. Yet none of those on the street who look up and shout "No!" and "Wait!" can understand the jump. You have been trapped and you too have felt the flames to really understand a terror much worse than the fall. "
